Henri Matisse made his his mark in the early 20th century with his colorful contributions to the Fauvist style of painting. This quote was translated from his thoughts in the 1947 edition of his book, Jazz - a collection of his cut-paper collages that were his medium of choice in later years as he became bed-bound and no longer able to freely paint. His words remind us that beauty can always be found, despite our circumstances, if we choose to persistently find it.
