Today Breonna Taylor would have been celebrating her 27th birthday.
•
The American police system looted her of that opportunity when on the night of March 13th, the Louisville Metro Police executed a warrant, looking for drugs they NEVER found, reportedly trafficked by a person who DID NOT live with Breonna or in her complex-and whom they ALREADY had in custody.
•
They sprayed her home with 20 rounds, shooting Breonna 8 times, killing her in her bed. In her bed. In her bed!
•
Another black life murdered and another black life we refuse to back down from calling for justice for.
•
With George Floyd’s name at the tip of our tongues it is critical that we show up with the same urgency and pressure to protect black women. Breonna deserved to be here, to be alive and to be well. The police officers who killed her are still free. This is unacceptable.

**FUNDRAISER**I’ve been given the opportunity to help raise funds for EJI – Equal Justice Initiative. EJI is committed to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States, to challenging racial and economic injustice, and to protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society.⁠⠀

Founded in 1989 by Bryan Stevenson, a widely acclaimed public interest lawyer and bestselling author of Just Mercy, EJI provides legal representation to people who have been illegally convicted, unfairly sentenced, or abused in state jails and prisons. We challenge the death penalty and excessive punishment and we provide re-entry assistance to formerly incarcerated people.⁠⠀

EJI works with communities that have been marginalized by poverty and discouraged by unequal treatment. ⁠⠀

For the month of June, Apple has committed to a 2 for 1 matching donation. I am working in partnership with an Apple employee to fund this donation. We have 10 silver Angela Davis necklaces and 5 gold Angela Davis necklaces that are available to purchase with the entirety going towards this fundraiser. The silver necklaces are $55 and $165 will be donated to EJI. The gold necklaces are $75 and $225 will be donated to EJI. ⁠⠀
